Borrowing its name from Charles Kingsley’s seminal 1855 novel, Contemporary is bringing a series of hot-topic panel discussions to the West for Contemporary Wine In Design, October 15th. Entitled Westward Ho! these seminars are imbued with as much spirit and reflection as Kingsley’s tale of adventure, the New World and the inquisitive nature of reaching out to new frontiers. Butting in on the design discussion across Western Australia, these lively and heated industry talks put a spotlight on A+D in a wholly new way. Surrounding topics relevant to the disciplines and professions of A+D today, the foci may be West Coast, but the insightfulness is valid worldwide.
Seats are filling up fast for these talks, so be sure to register your attendance via the links below:
East v West
Hosted proudly by the team at Arthur G
Saturday, October 15th, 10am
Design discussion often throws the words ‘collaboration’ and ‘co-operation’ around a little too recklessly. In Western Australia, the word ‘competition’ should be added to the mix. The focus and hype around A+D in this country is undeniably skewed in favour of the East Coast. But what does the West do differently? What is the distinction between the two orientations toward design? What can we learn?
Want to know who’s weighing-in on the debate? Introducing:
David Weir is one of Contemporary Wine In Design’s Official Ambassadors. As the Director of his eponymous firm David Weir Architects, Weir has been presented with the Australian Institute of Architects WA Chapter Emerging Architect Prize for 2016.
Richard Misso has worked with some of the most prestigious and iconic global furnishings and architectural brands as well as design studios and projects in Australia. As one of the founders of Stylesmiths, Misso is tackling the elitism of good design across the country, championing the cause that design is for everyone. If that wasn’t enough, he is also the founder and editor of Design Addicts platform, one of Australia’s most popular digital publications reaching over 30+ countries daily.
Steve Cordony is a leading Sydney based interior and event stylist, and the style director at-large for Australia’s leading interior design magazine Belle. Coming to CWID and refreshing the Arthur G showroom, he’s providing a dramatic backdrop to what will surely be an incredibly lively discussion.
Well, he’s the guy behind this whole thing. As Contemporary’s very own editor, David Congram is teaming up with only the best and brightest in Indesign Media and Perth to bring WA the state’s biggest design event: Contemporary Wine In Design!
