A total of 100 Smeg FAB28 retro-style refrigerators have been richly decorated in the hand painted, unique Sicilian symbols of lemons, the trinacria, cart wheels, medieval knights and battle scenes.
The first of the history-making refrigerators will be unveiled during a party held at Dolce & Gabbana’s Martini Bar at Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2016 in Milan.
The striking Sicilian history depicted in motifs and colour palettes are taken directly from the famous Carretto Siciliano (Sicilian horse drawn cart).
Artists and artisans commissioned for the project include brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Bevilacqua, noted for their colour palette of bright yellow, intense blue, emerald green and deep black, and mother-and-daughter duo Adriana Zambonelli and Tiziana Nicosia, who share a passion and skill for creating dramatic Pupi (traditional puppets).
With no two refrigerators the same and numbers limited to just 300, the luxury items epitomise the passion for style and design that both Dolce & Gabbana and family-owned Smeg are renowned for.
