Lights on new library

Not only providing Baldivis with new community facilities and a newfound identity, the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre by Site Architecture also provides and inspiring sensual experience.

Key to the design concept are the structural trees and uninterrupted timber ceilings or “canopies”, where ETC’s lighting design and Mondoluce’s light fittings allowed for a clean, services-free ceiling.

Equally set around each structural tree column, Mondoluce’s iGuzzini Le Perroquet projector up-lights indirectly illuminate the large, open and flexible space, and are an integral part of the overall design.

With lights only mounted at low levels, it allows easily accessible servicing of light fittings, even within large open spaces and ceiling heights up to nine metres.

Blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors, nature and building, new technology and tradition, intimate restrained retreats and large expressive spaces, the new Mary Davies Library and Community Centre promotes the significance of the local community.

Designed around the concept of rural farmhouses grouped around ahill and sheltered under a canopy of structural trees, the facility incorporates a state-of-the-art library, function hall, children’s activity room, child health services, and meeting and seminar rooms.
