Woods Bagot was commissioned by Built, a leading national construction firm, to design their new WA headquarters located in the heart of St Georges Terrace in Perth.
A close and creative collaboration between Woods Bagot and Built, the new office fit-out was designed as a series of freestanding and suspended elements within a raw building shell. The exposed soffit has become the emphasis of the design piece.
“A strong design approach with influences from hospitality is woven throughout the space to create blended staff and guest zones,” says Woods Bagot’s design lead Eva Sue. “This enables an inclusive company culture, flexible work zones and ensures that both staff and visitors feel equally ‘at home’.”
Designed to reflect the company culture, represent its core business and support operational expansion within the Perth construction market, Eva explains how the design exemplifies the bridging of hospitality and workplace design to deliver a space with a key emphasis on user experience.
“The design and detailing of bespoke joinery and the selection of furniture and finishes creates a hospitable residential feel, whilst the exposed concrete soffit, specialist lighting design and suspended ceiling framework adds a gallery-like drama which is complemented by a large scale painting by a local WA artist.”
Unique amenities include bicycle storage, a fully equipped open kitchen, sit-to- stand workstations, and a communal break out bar for in-house staff and client entertaining. These features place the design focus firmly on the user experience.
A restrained palette of timber and natural stone provides a warm and grounding experience at low level beneath a dramatic multi-functional suspended ceiling framework.
The project recently took out three awards at the Design Institute of Australia (WA Chapter) Design Awards, including Best in State, Award of Merit (Interior Spaces – Corporate category), and a Commendation for Lighting Solutions.
