Exciting News for Perth’s Allendale Square

Mirvac have just announced their proposal for the redevelopment of Perth’s iconic Allendale Square building. ContemporaryAU takes you through a primer of the future for the construction.

As part of Perth’s ongoing facelift that’s swept the CBD into a frenzy of rejuvenation, Mirvac has just released its brave vision for a total refurbishment of Perth’s iconic office building in Allendale Square.

Appointing the award-winning Western Australian Architect James Christou of Christou Design Group, the proposal incorporates an impressive larger-than-life glass canopy that wraps around the lobby, spanning the ground plane. Providing a highly theatrical illuminated entry to the building, the canopy frames so much of the modernity and light-filled design.

“Our vision for Allendale Square”, James Christou says, “is to transform the plaza and retail amenities into welcoming spaces where people can meet and relax. The revitalisation will result in a clean, efficient, activated hub, while also remaining sensitive to the architectural integrity of the existing tower.”

Once completed, the entry to the ground floor plaza will be flanked by a retail precinct of a staggering 1,600sqm to create a vibrant communal hub for tenants, workers and the wider public.

The redevelopment project is designed ultimately to support and improve the existing amenities for the Perth public. Including a remodelled lobby, new end of trip facilities, and upgraded lifts. The thirty-first level will be converted into office spaces featuring envious views of the Swan River. Embracing the urban industrial aesthetic, the use of exposed concrete and extruded aluminium on the ceilings attempts to create an ultra-contemporary space for workers to dine and unwind.

Mirvac’s Group Executive of Office, Andrew Butler says, “The refurbishment of Allendale Square will give this prestigious office tower a new lease on life and reflect the high-calibre of its tenants. […] More than a premium commercial building, the transformation of Allendale Square will make a striking contribution to the city, appealing to Perth’s discerning business community”.

Always with an eye to implementing sustainable architectural practice, the proposal comprises a completely LED lighting scheme that holds the 4 star NABERS energy rating and 2.5 star water rating.

The refurbishment is expected to be complete in early 2017.
