From Paris to Milan, London to Sydney, David Caon of Caon Studios has established himself as one of the leading design innovators extant today. In what is truly a staggering feat for a designer so young, an impressive portfolio of projects, collections and collaborations backs Caon Studios. In case you missed it: that’s pretty huge!
Having recently joined forces with Living Edge – one of the country’s foremost design destinations for architects, interior designers, design-enthusiasts and design-hunters – David Caon will be showcasing his latest offerings at the Living Edge showroom for Contemporary Wine In Design, October 15th. You definitely want to save the date in order to preview the latest suite of designs he’s bringing over to the West Coast. Plus, thanks to Team Living Edge, you’ll have the chance to meet their maker on the day too.
But, that’s not even half of what Living Edge will be treating you to! Get ready to be spoiled.
10am: Kicking off the day with breakfast, join Living Edge for those crumbly, steaming, burnished gold pastries we all love. With their showroom decked out in all the latest from Vitra Home, you’ll be starting your morning in the height of contemporary luxury.
11am-2pm: Thanks to Vasse Felix, Living Edge is inviting you to join them for some wine tasting. As one of WA’s very own premier wines, Vasse Felix is a wine-connoisseur’s dreams come true. From the pristine isolation on the Margaret River, engirt by twin oceans and grown from rich soil, Vasse Felix is renowned for robust, full-bodied reds and delicately nuanced white wines. Join Living Edge to sample 5 of the latest from Vasse Felix’s vintage.
While you sip away, take a look around the pop-up wine lounge the team have designed. The Stellar Works Wine Lounge features favourites from this much-loved Hong Kong brand, celebrating mixology (which, let’s be honest, is as important to furniture designers as it is to vintners). Synonymous for thoughtful design solutions and a charming aesthetic language of mixed materiality, the Stellar Works collection is certainly something not to be missed.
2.30pm: Why don’t you stick around a little longer and get down and dirty with the politics of A+D today? That’s right, you’re going to learn something! Presenting: ‘Design Democracy: ! or ?’. With Alec Coles OBE of the New Museum, Peter Lee of Hassell, Sandy Anghie of Anghie Designs, Andrew Thornton Hick of Ultimo Interiors and Contemporary’s Editor David Congram all weighing in on the status of democracy in design today, you’re going to be sitting on the edge of your seat.
The way the public perceives design is often very different to how the industry perceives it. This comes as no shock whatsoever. With huge projects like the New Museum or the revamped Perth Stadium on the cards, the design discussion in WA is not in the studio: it’s on the street. What does designing for the public sphere actually mean? Is this the only public? Meanwhile, in Europe, there is heated debate on the designer-side too. With landmark legislation that attempts to finally do away with ‘the replica’, democracy in design has come full circle to include the producer-side as well. When we talk about democracy in design, just how far-reaching are the ramifications?
3pm: Okay, well after all that heated debate, maybe it’s time to wind down a little. Living Edge has got it sorted: take the edge off at their Stellar Works Wine Lounge with an open bar from 3pm. You’ll be wowed by the impressive Libreria del Vino by the Australian-bound, Italian-based brothers behind Elite, To Be. This wine library is inspired by those centuries-old vineyards dotted throughout Northern Italy – and now, thanks to Living Edge’s expert curators, all throughout Western Australia too.
