I bet you think you know what a “design event” is. A room temperature canapé, a tradeshow demonstration, a glass bowl full of business cards – right? Well, think again.
Forget everything you know about design events because we’re Team Indesign. We’re loud. We’re fun. We’re design professionals. We’re party professionals. We’re all about changing it up – and Perth, we’re coming at you!
Here’s what’s good at #CWID16:
9.00am – Doors open on Design
Innerspace: Invite-only breakfast in the stunning Innerspace showroom. This breakfast is accompanied by special guest Sasha Ioppolo, presenting the talk ‘The Importance of New Media for Design Businesses’.
ALTI Lighting: 9.30-11am: Light Technical. ALTI Lighting is proud to launch its light technical room. Their brand new technical lighting dark room which allows them to demonstrate lighting effects. They will be serving coffee and pastries and their technical team will be explaining the colour of light, circadian rhythm lighting and tuneable white also known as human centric lighting.
10.00am – Start your day in Style
Innerspace: 10am. Join us in the Innerspace showroom for one of the panel discussions in Contemporary Wine In Design’s seminar series ‘Westward Ho!’ Team Innerspace will be hosting ‘West-Side Stor(e)y’. We ask, how important is creating or maintaining an architectural identity? How much of a role should architects and designers have in the story of Perth’s identity? Speakers include: Jemma Green (Curtin University), Suzanne Hunt (Suzanne Hunt Architect), Clinton Matthews (Lantern Creative), Benjamin Braham (Braham Architects).

Living Edge: 10am. Kicking off the day with breakfast, join Living Edge for those crumbly, steaming, burnished gold pastries we all love. With their showroom decked out in all the latest from Vitra Home, you’ll be starting your morning in the height of contemporary luxury.
Arthur G: 10am. Join Arthur G as they debate East v West. Looking at how design discussion often throws the words ‘collaboration’ and ‘co-operation’ around a little too recklessly. In Western Australia, the word ‘competition’ should be added to the mix. Speakers include: Speakers: Richard Misso (The Stylesmiths), David Weir (David Weir Architects), Steve Cordony (Arthur G) and David Congram (Contemporary Editor).

Artedomus: 10am. The CWID day starts with an invite only Artedomus Amici function where you can meet up with friends and colleagues and get your day underway with Toby’s Estate coffee and gourmet breakfast treats. Artedomus is celebrating all things Agape Italy for CWID with the latest designs from this iconic design company, including bathware by Patricia Urquiola, Gwenael Nicholas from Curiosity, Angelo Mangiarotti and Benedini Associati. All complemented with unique Artedomus range of natural stone, artisan tiles and architectural surfaces.
Furniture Options, Lighting Options, CDK Stone: 10am. Opening on the dot, be sure to get in quick and grab yourself a coffee while you browse their incredible collections. Hang around to hear all the latest in furnishings and spatial design during their talk Furniture and Design with the heavyweights of A+D.
Mobilia: 10am-12pm. Mobilia are opening their doors at 10am on the dot! This brand new showroom is an absolute CWID exclusive. Come and check it out for yourself: designed by Michael Patroni and Dimity Walker of Space Agency. Filled with the latest in European design, many of the peices will be launching for the first time in Australia. Including the hot-off-the-press treats such as Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s Lattice Rug for Nanimarquina, Fritz Hansen’s latest for Atelier Areti, Moroso’s Setting: The Elegance, Diesel’s Successful Living, Doshi Levien’s Kettal Terrain Fabrics and Colours, Patricia Urquiola’s Mesh for Kettal and DOshi Levien’s Kvadrat.
11.00am – Masterpieces in the Mid-morning
Retreat Design: 11am ‘Kitchen Cabinetry Technology’. Technology is continually improving to give the end consumer an even better experience in their home. We discuss the future of the ‘kitchen’ and how technology is shaping this.
Living Edge: 11am-2pm. Thanks to Vasse Felix, Living Edge is inviting you to join them for some wine tasting. As one of WA’s very own premier wines, Vasse Felix is a wine-connoisseur’s dreams come true. Innerspace: 11am. Pop on by to the Innerspace Residential Showroom to get the dow-low on all thing style. With WA-based stylist Lisa Quinn-Schofield from Featherhorse you’ll be taken through all the ins-and-outs of styling to an editorial brief. Covering everything from starting with a neutral base to creating a styled setting, you’ll be able to tailor to the tone and mood of any of our lifestyle glossies.
Bernini + Luxury Stone Designs: From 11am to 3:30pm throughout the day as well, Team Bernini and Luxury Stone Designs will be hosting a fine wine tasting with Swanbourne Cellars: the renowned family-owned business with over 80 years experience in the wine industry. Their extensive and eclectic range of both Australian and international wines attracts customers from around Perth to their cellar containing an enormous range of fine wines, spirits, craft beers and champagnes from every corner of the globe. Throughout the day and as the official Australian distributors for Maer Charme, Luxury Stone Designs are proud to present this collection at CWID event for a fresh new take on the application of these magnificent natural semi-precious stones. Admired and appreciated from the ancient world to present day, these gems have been used to create exceptional masterpieces for interior and exterior spaces. Furniture Options, Lighting Options, CDK Stone: 11.30am Still want more? We gotcha! Kick back and why don’t you grab yourself another coffee – it’s the weekend after all! – while you soak in all the wisdom of ERCO and their presentation The Language of Light.
12.00pm – High-noon High-life
Mobilia: 12pm-2pm. This is the time to fulfil your design appetite as you surround yourself witht eh best offering in European design thanks to Mobilia. Come down to their ‘Design Deli’ which will be serving up an array of freshly made Southern Italian deli-inspired eats. Grab one of their unique Italian beverages and bitters to tide you through for the night ahead.
Furniture Options, Lighting Options, CDK Stone: 12.30pm We’re nearing lunch now, so let’s wind things down (but only a little bit) with some history. With team CDK Stone, find out all about the History of Natural Stone and Design.
Artedomus: 12.30pm. Artedomus is hosting the thought-provoking seminar ‘Go West!’ addressing infrastructure investment & the impact of the A&D community on WA tourism, debated by leaders in the industry including including Michael Woodhams and Phillip Griffiths (AIA WA Chapter), Jack Flanagan (of Jack Flanagan) and Neil Cownie (Neil Cownie Architects). You want unique? They’ll be serving up highly regarded, hard to get, hand-crafted boutique wine from L.A.S Vino (the latest young gun from Margaret River) and an enticing antipasti spread while you earn formal CPD points.

1.00pm – Lunchtime Luxuries
Retreat Design: 1pm. ‘Design News from Europe’. Discover the latest design trends coming out of EuroCucina 2016 (Milan). Andrea and our senior designer Kelly were both there and are excited to be sharing their experiences at this year’s fair with the local Perth design community.
V-ZUG+ Retreat Design: All day. Throughout Saturday, Retreat Design has teamed up with premier appliance brand V-ZUG to serve up some deluxe Italian treats. Fresh from their latest Combi Steam Ovens, the menu has your lunch (but, let’s be honest: breakfast, morning tea, dinner, afternoon tea… how could you say no?!) cravings sorted. Featuring: Parmesan and pinenut roasted mushroom caps; risotto balls; black olive, roasted capsicum and feta crostini; Sicilian prawn blinis; proscuitto, ricotta pesto pastries; spicy pepper beef meatballs; pizza pinwheels; Caprese balls; roasemary roasted olives, and all the traditional favours of Antipasti. Cooked using the latest technology in European design, you’ll be treated to the freshest of food and technology all day long!

Arthur G: All Day. Don’t miss out on dropping in to visit the team at Arthur G. All day they’re serving up the latest from their incredible collection including: Phoenix, Dawson Modular, Roxy Chair and Roxy Sofa. Beyond the new designs being showcased on the day, Team Arthur G will also be championing local art throughout their showroom reimagined by stylist Steve Cordony, for punters to enjoy alongside a spread of local produce and fine WA wines.
Artedomus: All Day. Artedomus is throwing open the doors of their unique 1959 Hobbs Winning & Leighton designed building. District: All Day. Throughout the day, District invites you to take a journey through their exclusive new products from old favourites such as Magis, Mattiazzi, Normann Copenhagen and Resident as well as the Perth launches of new brands that have joined their family. As you carry out your journey feel free to make a few stops along the way. Food will include something delicious to keep you going plus something sweet to tempt you. Once you are worn out – feet sore and tummies full – there will be one more delight before you leave. You get to put your new found knowledge to the test and go into the draw to win an awesome prize courtesy of your good friends – Team District!
ALTI Lighting: All afternoon. We will be serving wines from Forest Hill Vineyard including a select tasting from the rare and renowned Block Series and Cheese from Blue Cow. Come and view the exclusive Australian product launches of the Vistosi Futura by Hangar Design Group, and Puppet by Michele Romani, Collide for Rotaliana by Paolo Dell’Elce and a selection of the latest designs from Roger Pradier (France).
2.00pm – Aesthetics and the Afternoon
Retreat Design: 2pm What it Means to be 100% “Made In Italy”. Andrea, Retreat Design’s senior designer will be discussing the certification process for the prestigious ‘100% Made in Italy’ badge and how this provides for a best practise, high quality kitchen finish.

Living Edge: 2.30pm. Why don’t you stick around a little longer and get down and dirty with the politics of A+D today? That’s right, you’re going to learn something! Presenting: ‘Design Democracy: ! or ?’. With Alec Coles OBE of the New Museum, Peter Lee of Hassell, Sandy Anghie of Anghie Designs, Andrew Thornton Hick of Ultimo Interiors and Contemporary’s Editor David Congram all weighing in on the status of democracy in design today, you’re going to be sitting on the edge of your seat.

Furniture Options, Lighting Options, CDK Stone: 3.30pm. Stone has really made a huge comeback in our homes and workplaces in the last few years. Looking at this love affair with stone in depth, the team will be presenting the talk Stone in Contemporary Design: Sintered Ceramics and Benchtops of Tomorrow.
Living Edge: 3pm. Okay, well after all that heated debate, maybe it’s time to wind down a little. Living Edge has got it sorted: take the edge off at their Stellar Works Wine Lounge with an open bar from 3pm. You’ll be wowed by the impressive Libreria del Vino by the Australian-bound, Italian-based brothers behind Elite, To Be. This wine library is inspired by those centuries-old vineyards dotted throughout Northern Italy – and now, thanks to Living Edge’s expert curators, all throughout Western Australia too.
